VORTEX at Fulldome UK

It’s been an intense weekend at the National Space Centre for Fulldome UK. Two solid days packed with the best in fulldome from all over the world. VORTEX won an award for ‘Best Sonic Experience’, which fills my heart with joy, and my soul with some kind of creative adrenaline.

An international crowd gathered from USA, Brazil, Germany, Spain, UK, Canada, New-Zealand, and more to experience 2 days of films, talks and live performances in fulldome. These kind of events are pretty rare, so when they happen the fulldome community travels from far and wide.

A huge variety of short films were screened in several sessions, exploring different immersion, animation, live capture, generative, and CG techniques. There were also some very powerful immersive sound based pieces.

The VJ performances were an historical event… United VJs running 6 feeds from a Hackintosh. SAT shipped over a giant rack of servers from Canada, and set up high resolution outputs in one day of access to the dome. RFID and Immersive both set up real-time, audio driven generative visuals, to the six feeds within just a few hours. The performances were all vastly unique and equally insane. They transformed the dome into a continuously evolving social space.

DJ Food’s screening of The Search Engine was the finale of the event… An hour of pure glory.
